Giant Power State-owned NTPC ARM NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd. (Nrel) will float the procurement of global engineering and construction tenders to regulate the 3GW renewable energy project with a battery storage system worth around RS 15,000 Crore in February 2022, according to a senior official.

“Nrel has decided to float global tender or RFP (request proposal) for a 3GW renewable energy project (such as sun and wind) with a battery energy storage system in the next two months (in February 2022). This requires an investment around Rs 15,000 Crore,” said senior official to PTI.

Request for Proposal (RFP) is a business document that announces the project, explains, and requests an offer from the Contractor who is eligible to solve it.

Development assumes significance considering the ambitious target of India has 175GW renewable energy in 2022, including 100GW of wind energy and 60 gw.

According to the Central Electricity Authority report (CEA), on November 30, 2022, Indian renewable energy capacity – not including a large hydro plant – is 104GW, including 49GW and 40GW wind power.

NREL, a 100 percent subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, currently has a renewable project portfolio of 3,850 GW, which, 970 MW projects are being built and the 2,880 MW of the project has been won and is in a different implementation phase.

Nrel is set to realize the target has 60GW renewable energy (back).

NTPC’s return capacity was considered to be 45 percent of the total capacity of the 130 gw generation installed in 2032.

The plan to have 60 gw capacity Re in 2032 will require an investment of Rs 2.5 lakh Crore.

NTPC has included Nrel with a company registrant, NCT from Delhi & Haryana, on October 7, 2020, to do renewable energy business.

It also plans to bring strategic investors for NREL to bring the equity section below 50 percent before the listings on the stock in October 2022.

The current installed capacity of the NTPC Group is 67.907.5 MW (including 13,675 MW through JVS / Subsidiaries), consisting of 48 NTPC stations (23-based coal, 7-based gas, 1 station 1 Hydro, 1 Hydro, 15 solar winds and 1 Wind -Dased) and 26 joint venture stations (9 based coal, 4 gas-based, 8 hydro, 1 small hydro, 2 winds and 2 solar pv).
