India is the largest global buyer of sunflower oil and Ukraine is its largest seller, followed by Russia and Argentina.

In the midst of a unleashed war between Russia and Ukraine, shipments of more than 3 50,000 tonnes of cooking oil in India are at risk because logistics and loads remain blocked in different ports. India, the world’s largest sunflower oil buyer with imports to 60% of its needs, is also the best buyer of palm and soy oils.

The country traders have contracts under contract of 5.50 000 tonnes of sunflower oil from Ukraine and Russia for deliveries in February and March, reported Reuters report, citing Sandeep Bajoria, President of the International Sunflower Oil Association.

While 1,80,000 tons of cooking oil succeeded from ports, Bajoria said the fate of the rest was uncertain.

Cooking oil prices can increase

Ukraine and Russia account for nearly 80% of sunflower shipments in the world.

The current war between Moscow and Kiev is one of the worst security crises that Europe has seen since the Second World War. According to reports, the Ukrainian delegation has now agreed to meet with the Russian delegation for talks along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border.
