Padmini Kolhapure made the headlines when he kissed Prince Charles in 1980. Years later, the actor shot controversy by saying it was no big deal.
Back in 1980, when Bollywood hid their kiss behind dancing flowers and meadows, actor Padmini Kolhapure made the jaw fall when he jumped and confidently planted a kiss at Prince Charles’ during his visit to India.
Years before Prince Charles, Putri, Putri Diana, heirs, the kingdom had visited India. During his trip, he visited a studio where Bollywood film was shot. Hearing his visit, Padmini who was excited about going to greet him.
The short video of their interaction was distributed on YouTube, where Padmini welcomed Charles with a bouquet of flowers and quickly planted a kiss on his cheeks. Visual shook India and England. So Padmini, in an interview in 2013, revealed that he was recognized as a woman who kissed Prince Charles.
“He visited Mumbai and I didn’t know what he thought he wanted to see. We were filming for Ahista Ahista in Rajkamal Studios. Shashikalaji did Aarti India and I just welcomed it hard on his cheeks. But, at that time, it was the thing. Great. I remember I went to London for a vacation and the British immigration officer asked me, ‘Are you the same person who kissed Prince Charles? “I was left embarrassed,” he told me every day in 2013.
Speaking with the Hindustan period, Padmini said, “It was just as interrupt on the cheek … the media took him to another place. It was no big deal.”
Padmini began his career in Bollywood as a child artist. He starred in several films, including Raj Kapoor Satyam Shivam Sundaram. He played the role of young Zeenat safe in the film. Padmini then starred in many films such as Prem Rog, Souten, Woh at Din, and Pyar Jhucta Nahin.
In a recent interview with a leading daily, Padmini said that he refused the film which finally went to Sridevi, Rikha, and Rati Agnihotri. He also claimed he regretted Raj Kapoor Ram Teri Ganga Maili, who starred in the late Kapoor Rajiv in the main role.
